Why choose lip fillers?

Lip fillers are a great treatment choice for those looking to add volume, hydration or definition to their lips. Over time, lips can lose their volume due to the normal ageing process. For some people, this can be something they choose to address with dermal fillers. At Coral Aesthetics, we choose to enhance your natural lip shape rather than make drastic changes, to keep your lips looking natural and in line with your other facial features and proportions.

What are lip fillers?

Lip fillers refer to a wide variety of treatments using a product containing Hyaluronic Acid. Despite its name, Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring sugar molecule. This unique molecule binds with water, therefore plumping and hydrating the skin. Over 50% of the HA in our body can be found in the dermis where it provides natural moisture and hydration.

Lip fillers are a synthetic version of HA which can be injected into the lips to lift and add volume. They are a clear gel-like substance that come in sterile syringes ready for injection. Our favourite lip filler of choice (having tried many!) is MaiLi - a premium HA filler with unique properties that make it soft and malleable. We love using this product in the lip because it moves naturally with talking and smiling, rather than appearing stiff and fake, something we believe is important for undetectable lip filler!

How long does treatment last?

The results of your treatment will be immediate however it will take up to 2 weeks to see the final result. This is due to some swelling in the area following injection, which typically improves after 3 or 4 days. You can expect your dermal filler to last at least 3-4 months for your first treatment, however this depends on how long it takes for your body to break down the filler which can vary between individuals. Most of our clients will see us on average 1-2 times per year for maintenance treatment.

Can lip filler look natural?

The majority of people do not want their lip filler to appear unnatural or fake. Although they are skeeing an improvement to the overall appearance of their lips, they do not want them to be a noticeable or obvious feature.

The answer is yes! Lip filler can indeed look natural. Having treated close to 1,000 sets of lips, Nurse Coral has found the following to be key to creating a very natural lip filler look:

• Choosing the right product for the lips

• Using the right amount of product and not overfilling

• Injecting using specific techniques to get specific results

• Respecting the natural shape and anatomy of the lips

Will my lips be swollen and bruised?

When injecting the lips, swelling and bruising are to be expected. For most people, this will be minimal and you can return to your regular activities the following day. You will be provided with post treatment aftercare that will help minimise swelling and bruising and improve your healing time. Not everyone will experience bruising, however swelling is imminent. This will improve drastically in the first few days following your lip filler treatment and we expect the lips to be healed by 2 weeks.
