Why choose Profhilo?

If you like the idea of an injectable moisturiser that leaves skin firm, hydrated and glowing then read on - as Profhilo may be the treatment you have been looking for!

What is Profhilo?

We refer to Profhilo as an injectable moisturiser because it is exactly that - and so much more! It is a stabilised, pure form of hyaluronic acid that is injected into the layers of the skin.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is well known these days as we often hear about it in beauty magazines and we can find it in many of our cosmetic products, but do you really know much about it? As a reminder, it is an important sugar molecule that naturally occurs in our bodies and has the ability to bind with water.  This property makes HA very useful for maintaining moisture in the skin, as well as other roles such as lubricating our joints. Over half of the body's HA molecules live in our dermis (deeper layer of skin). You can therefore begin to imagine how injecting Profhilo, a high concentration of HA, can work wonders on your skin.

How does Profhilo work?

Profhilo works by something known as bio-remodelling. This means when it is injected into specific points (we call these Bio Aesthetic Points or BAPs) it kickstarts the production of elastin and four different types of collagen within the skin. Elastin keeps the skin bouncy and elasticated, whereas collagen provides strength and support. These two proteins work hand in hand to keep skin looking youthful and fight the signs of ageing skin. As a result, when Profhilo is injected the skin is renewed and has increased moisture and visibly reduced fine lines, wrinkles, dullness, loose skin and dehydration.

Straight after Profhilo is injected, it gets to work in the skin. However, you will not get an immediate result. There will be bumps on the skin from the injections that you must not massage. Profhilo will start to disperse and spread into the layers of the skin like honey.

There is minimal downtime with this treatment and you can resume exercise after 24 hours. Other things to avoid for the first day or two include sun or UV exposure, saunas, and heat to the face from a steamy shower/bath.

Which areas can be treated?

The face and neck are the most popular areas treated with Profhilo. However the hands, knees and other parts of the body also get great results. Wherever the skin lacks moisture and has a crepey texture, Profhilo can work wonders.

How long does Profhilo last?

You may start to notice an improvement from as little as 3 days following treatments, however we do know that bio-remodelling can take many weeks so patience is key! After your first session, you will be invited back 4 weeks later to complete another session of Profhilo. Results last up to one year, however it is recommended that you repeat the course every 6 months.

Is Profhilo the same as anti-wrinkle

or dermal filler injections?

So, firstly Profhilo is very different to anti-wrinkle injections. You can find out how these two treatments differ by clicking here to read more about anti-wrinkle injections. To summarise, anti-wrinkle injections use a neurotoxin to temporarily stop muscle movement which in turn reduces wrinkles. On the contrary, Profhilo works directly on the skin itself and does not affect muscle activity.

But wait - aren't dermal fillers hyaluronic acid (HA) too? Yes, that's right however they are still very different and here is why:

Dermal fillers are pre-filled syringes of HA such as Juvéderm, MaiLi or Teosyal. They are great at targeting specific areas of volume loss such as the cheeks, lips, nose to mouth lines or contouring the face in areas such as the nose or chin. Dermal fillers are a synthetic version of HA which are cross-linked with proteins and often contain an anaesthetic too. They are injected directly into the area required, where they attract water and provide an immediate result. They do not provide the same level of bio-remodelling, tissue repair and hydration to the skin in the same way Profhilo does.

Who is suitable for treatment?

Profhilo is a very safe  treatment and suitable for many. Your nurse will carry out a full medical consultation to ensure you are suitable.

You cannot have Profhilo treatment if:

- You are pregnant or breastfeeding

- You are under 18 years of age
