SWEATING

Excessive sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis, is a condition that causes abnormal perspiration beyond what is necessary to regulate body temperature. This condition can occur in various areas of the body, including the underarms, hands, feet, and face, and can significantly impact daily life and self-confidence.

At Coral Aesthetics, we offer effective solutions to help manage excessive sweating, using advanced treatments like Botox injections. Whether you’re dealing with sweating in specific areas or generalised hyperhidrosis, our treatments are designed to provide long-lasting relief, helping you feel more comfortable and confident in your own skin. Contact us today to find out how we can help you manage excessive sweating in our London, Essex, and Kent clinics.

What Causes Excessive Sweating?

Hyperhidrosis is a condition characterised by excessive sweating (beyond what's needed to regulate body temperature), often affecting the underarms, hands, feet, and face. This condition can occur without an underlying medical cause (primary or focal hyperhidrosis) or as a result of other health conditions such as obesity, stress, or medications (secondary or generalised hyperhidrosis).

Primary hyperhidrosis is the most common type and usually begins in childhood or adolescence. It is thought to be caused by overactivity of the sympathetic nervous system, which controls the sweat glands. There is generally no underlying medical condition and it typically affects specific areas (e.g. armpits, hands, feet, face). With this type, you will often find that there is a genetic link and it runs in families.

Secondary hyperhidrosis in comparison, is caused by an underlying medical condition or medication. It often starts in adulthood and may affect the whole body. Causes include menopause or hormonal imbalances, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, infections, certain medications (e.g. antidepressants, pain relievers) or neurological conditions.

How Can Excessive Sweating Be Treated?

If conservative measures such as strong antiperspirant deodorants and loose clothing have been unsuccessful, we can help!

At Coral Aesthetics we use a series of small, safe injections (the same neuromodulator used in anti-wrinkle injections such as Botox) to stop excessive sweating. This treatment is highly effective from the first session, although a review appointment may be needed. Procedure time is approximately 30 minutes, there is minimal discomfort and results will last up to 6 months.

You will need a face to face consultation to assess your suitability for this treatment with our Nurse Prescriber.
