SKIN
Crepey skin appears thin, wrinkled and fragile, commonly seen on the face, neck, and arms - similar in texture to crepe paper. Unlike deeper wrinkles or folds, crepey skin is more about loss of elasticity and firmness than just lines alone. It often affects delicate areas like the under-eyes, neck, décolletage, inner arms, and hands, where the skin is naturally thinner and more prone to damage.
Due to a combination of different factors, crepey skin can be difficult to treat. Most of our patients come in having tried plenty of 'firming creams', magic 'night creams' or retinols without any success on improving the quality of skin. At Coral Aesthetics, we pride ourselves on delivering treatments that get results!
What Causes Crepey Skin?
Crepey skin is thin, fragile, and wrinkled skin that often appears on the face, neck, and under the eyes. It occurs due to the natural loss of collagen, elastin, and moisture as we age. Hormonal changes also affect skin texture, especially during menopause, when oestrogen levels drop. External factors such as excessive sun exposure, smoking, and harsh skincare products also contribute to crepey skin.
As the skin loses its ability to retain moisture and repair itself, fine lines and sagging appear more pronounced. Treatment for crepey skin may include skin boosters, hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, and collagen-stimulating treatments like Profhilo. Consistent use of moisturisers and sunscreen can also help maintain skin hydration and prevent further damage.
What Treatments Are Available For Crepey Skin?
Crepey skin, which appears thin and loose, is often a sign of collagen loss due to ageing. Skin boosters like Profhilo or polynucleotides can improve hydration and elasticity, stimulating collagen production and restoring the skin’s firmness. We also offer the incredible Profhilo Structura - a personal favourite of Nurse Coral and many of her patients. This revolutionary hyaluronic acid skin booster, helps plump the skin and adds hydration for the ultimate improvement to skin texture.
For more severe cases, dermal fillers can also be used to provide structural support to areas of the face and body suffering from crepiness. There is also the option of biostimulators such as Sculptra or Ellanse which help to make skin more firm and plump.
